First memories

While out doing something fun with the family I often find myself wondering if this will be the kids' first memory.
Will it be:
the circus
the pumpkin patch
the park
the movie theater
etc.
etc.
etc.

Or will it be of something of the everyday sort:
saying grace before dinner
playing with their sisters
eating dinner together
cuddling on the couch.

I so want that first memory to be magical.
I want it to be something from their childhood that when they look back seems all glowing and warm.
I want it to be worthy of a "first memory."

As far back as I can remember, my first memory is of my brother's birth.
It isn't a solid memory, more like a vignette of moments:
My Dad coming home from the hospital, making mac & cheese and us eating in the kitchen.
Going up to see my brother for the first time and the nurse placing a little plastic Care Bear in his bassinet.
My mom and brother coming home and I got to hold my brother on our brown plaid couch.
(Yes I did totally age myself, I was a product of the '80s.)

This memory for me does have that golden, glowy quality to it that I want for my kids.

What is your first memory?

  1. I remember my mom waking me up while it was still dark out so we could drive to Mesa, to my cousins house. I don't know how old I was, why we were going to visit, or anythiing else...just that it was sooo cool to be up while it was still dark out.

  2. When I was two I fell out of the car while my mom was driving down the road and that's my first memory.

With my son, we were watching a show and it reminded me of games my son and I played when he was younger. I mentioned it to him and he has no memory of this. Makes me sad that so many of our great times are not remembered by him since he was just to young. That's why I take tons of pictures!

  3. My first memory was drinking milk from a small glass wrapped with one of those cup cover that's handmade. It was a nice memory also as I can still remember that we have all our furnitures in our house, before my parents have to sell all our belongings and move to the middle east to work. They had to leave us with our grandparents.
