Why do I blog?

This question has been floating around in my head lately.
Why?
What is the purpose of all of this stuff that I put out there?
Why do I choose to spend my limited free time doing this?

Should I be writing about more "important" things?
Should I be writing certain types of posts?

I have really been questioning my intent on this subject.
Do I love blogging?
YES!
Do I love meeting all of you amazing people that stop by my little corner of the world?
YES!
Do I enjoy sharing my life experiences, the good, the bad, the funny, the sad?
Yes!
I enjoy all of these aspects of blogging.

There are also times that I feel bogged down with making "more" of it.
That I am not doing enough.
That I should be working on getting more readers.
That I should be writing about more heavy, in depth topics.

But then it hit me.

I do this for my kids.
I do this so that someday, if my children feel so inclined, they can look back at all the things that they have done.
I do this so that it can been a little digital scrapbook into the memory making and the milestones.
I do this so that our friends and family that don't get to see our children all that often can feel like they know them.
I do this so that I can look back at how quickly my girls grow and remember the funny things they say.

I do this so I can meet people like you.
People that I can learn things from.
People that I can share life with.
People that, even though live far away, I can be friends and we can care about one another.

I do this for myself.
So that I can express myself.
So that I can share my grief and laughter.
So that I can contribute something, maybe, in some little way.

I love blogging.
I love everything about it.

What about you, why do you blog?

  1. Well, I would say something about what I love..but you basically went and said it all! Great post - I completely understand and basically feel EXACTLY THE SAME.

Funny how long lost twins do that. :P

  2. I'd have to agree with all the above as well (and def. the part about should I be writing more in depth, getting more readers.. etc.) But the documenting our life, sharing with family, learning from others, passing on good ideas or interests, there's so many good reasons :) I have a couple lines in my "who I am" page explaining why my blog exists and it's similar to why you blog. Isn't it funny how we justify why we spend the time we do on our website diaries of our families. It's probably silly, but I felt better after I explained why :)
    have a great night!

  5. Hi Danna, well said!...I too feel the same about blogging...I don't do it for my children, but to keep a semi-journal of our home remodel, and also to share what I know so other people can be enriched and empowered in some way by little tricks and shortcuts to make their lives a little itty bit better ^_^

P.S....I'm sure your cupcakes will love seeing this all in the future! ^_^
