I don't get technology.
So much so that I don't even pretend.
When trying to ask a question or explain something to my computer genius hubby, I frequently use words/phrases such as:
thingy, you know the thing that you, I want this thing to do this/etc.
He has grown to understand my deficiency and has such patience.
Normally to learn how to do pretty much anything computer related I have to watch it be done, write down exact directions and then do it myself.
I am not kidding you when I tell you how deficient I am.
It took me ages to be able to upload pictures from my camera to the computer.
The thing that has forced me to become more comfortable with technology is my blog.
I love this thing.
To make it all that I hope for it to be forces me out of my comfort zone.
Yes there is a lot more that I wish that I could do to it, but for now I am going to have to be happy with where it's at.
Now, I am not being hard on myself.
Truly I am not.
It is just that technology/internet/etc just speaks a different language than I do.
I often feel like I am visiting a foreign country and I don't understand the language at all.
So, I will share something embarrassing.
I just don't get Twitter.
I don't understand it.
I have a basic idea as to how it works, but other than that, not so much.
Whew, I feel so much better getting that off of my chest.
Now, you can imagine my intimidation with my new iphone.
Yikes!
We all have different gifts! You may be wonderful at something the nearest techno-geek has no clue about.
ReplyDeleteIt did make me laugh that you have an I-Phone...which is like techno-geek nirvana. : )
Think of it this way, if your husband it techno handy then you have another item on your list of reasons to love him. : )
Have a super weekend!
Danna,
ReplyDeleteI have been thinking about putting together a little class to share what I know about social media with friends of mine who don't know as much, but would like to learn. If you could get a small group together I'd love to sit down, have some coffee and have a discussion.
Technology, like anything new, requires folks to learn a new language. It is beyond scary. I don't understand it all, but I get the basics which can carry a person a long way. lol.

I am quite similar to you on this one. My one piece of advice is to always, always save a copy of your blog before you make any changes at all. I have messed up the html code on my blog no less than four times TODAY. I am learning. slowly.
ReplyDeleteI am the SAME way! LOL. As a matter of fact, whenever we get something new like a camera or computer... I refuse to use it for a while because I HATE learning something new.
ReplyDeleteBut I am an avid twitterer. I LOVE it so much but am not the best at it =p
I wish I understood twitter as well. The whole #randomcommentsstrugtogetherwithnospaces thing has me confused! I am ok with technology...but getting my self from point a to point b in a car...completely different story!
ReplyDeletelol I wondered about twitter for a long time, just didn't get what the big deal was! :)
ReplyDeleteHaha - technology can definitely be confusing! I think that because I've used it for so long, it has just become 'normal' now - something that I just understand without thinking about it too much..although I have to admit that I'm new to twitter and although it wasn't THAT hard for me to catch on to..there are still definitely things that I don't really GET about it or get how to do yet..but because I've played around with blogs/internet stuff for a decade now (holy COW - how did THAT happen?!) ..but now that I've been playing with twitter for a few weeks..I'm getting hooked..to the point where I'm like..Erin..close the window, turn off the phone..step away! LOL!
ReplyDeleteI'm not SUPER great with technology or twitter, but I get by..so don't ever think about hesitating to ask me a question or shoot me an email..I promise I'll help if I can..and if not I'll admit that I'm just as clueless as you..haha! :)
