The gym

Last Friday K and I decided that we were going to head to the gym to workout.
It was the first time in our 13+ years together that we have ever gone to the gym together.
That's romance I tell ya!

I'm still moving forward with my weight-loss, get in shape, swimsuit prep mode.
I still have some weight to lose and quite a bit more toning that needs to occur.
Changes are happening, but they are happening slowly.
I know that's the best way to do it but sometimes some instant gratification would be nice.
{Really nice to be honest.}

These last few weeks I have been gaining and losing the same two pounds.
I'm not sure what's going on with that, whatever.

My current plan is to stick with the fitness app, although the darn thing drives me batty when I realize how many calories something is vs. how many calories are available and OH MY GOODNESS I'M SO HUNGRY!
It's getting better in the hunger department but sometimes it's brutal.

Back to Saturday, our gym has about four hours of childcare time available so we knew that we were going in the morning.
K brought his iPad to watch a movie while I thoroughly enjoyed cable television, yay for some HGTV!

We got there a little later than we had originally planned so we only had about an hour to workout.
It was nice to be able to look over and chat with him every once in a while then look outside at the beautiful, non-children trodden snow that looked like a sparkly white blanket.

We were both keeping an eye on the clock for when we needed to go pick up the girls.
K hopped off the elliptical, joking with me about he got more miles in AND had burn more calories than I did.
Sigh.
I just can't let him win both and yes, I will totally admit that we are competitive with one another.
He had made it 4.15 miles and I just couldn't let that slide, I had to go further than him because there was no way I was going to beat his calorie loss.
So, I did what any rational, sane, grown-up, 32 year old woman would do.
I kicked into high gear, darn near sprinting on that machine so I could beat his distance and beat it I did.
4.20 miles.
Victory!
Until he reminded me that he beat my calorie loss AND he did the mileage in less time.
Party pooper.
Oh well, I will claim my win and relish in it.
Because I am an adult after all who only engages in adult competitiveness.
Obviously.

We have plans to go next weekend as well and I am determines to beat his distance again AND hopefully his time.
A girl can dream, right?

P.S. I am doing The Color Run again!!!!
This is my third time doing it and I am pumped.
By besties and I will be doing it together again {go team Save the Snails!} and this time our mamas will be doing it with us.
That's right, my Mom will be doing the 5K with us!
I'm so excited!
We are even planning on making tutus which we be even more fun!

Baaaaaaa

This afternoon, after consuming sprinkle pancakes, we went to Sam's Club to pick up some groceries.
The trip was a uneventful as it can be with an almost 3 year old and a five year old.
The 10 year old was easy as pie, shocking, isn't it?

Needless to say, K and I were feeling a bit harried and very ready to get the kids buckled and headed home.

We got the kids in the car and K and I started unloading our cart and talking.

Out of the blue we heard a very loud, "baaaaaaa".

It was so loud that I jumped.

K quickly looked over at me like I had lost my mind.

What are you doing?

What? That wasn't me!!! I said while laughing hysterically.

Turns out that a truck behind us had two sheep in the bed of it.

I would love to know what in K's mind made him think that I was loudly baaaa-ing out of the blue so loud.

Seriously husband.

Data entry and spring cleaning

Today, while Abby slept I worked on some data entry.
Did I tell you that I am on a subcommittee for the PTO?
Well, for that committee I am on another subcommittee, awesome sauce.
For the second subcommittee we are working on a study topic trying to find out about communication among other things between schools and parents.
We were expecting to get maybe a couple hundred responses and were thrilled to get close to 900.
Such a great number!
We have a couple hundred paper copies of the survey that need to be entered so we can tally results and whatnot.
So that has been my mission, get my portion of the written surveys entered.

You know what I've discovered?
I really enjoy data entry.
Yep, that's right.

This morning around 11 o'clock I got a call from Adison's school, she puked.
I was worried about her, my poor baby.
But then, I get there, she's laying down on the cot/bed thing and she says, Mommy, I feel fine.
Oh, okay.
We are 99% sure it was from her donuts, sugar overload.
Now she's home for two days, score!
We of course had to stop by Sonic to pick up a Sprite for her and treat her sisters to Sprites too.

Abby has been galloping around the house singing
Bate bate, chocolate
She's a big Dora fan.

Spring Cleaning.
The kids DE-MOL-ISH-ED the house on Saturday.
I had been putting off doing a big cleaning but K took one look at it and declared it time.
For a while the house was even messier but then, at long last, it was clean.
Less than 24 hours later it was trashed again.
But at least it was a clean trashed???

Ainsley starts ballet tonight.
She is beyond excited and told me earlier that she wanted to go right then and wait outside there until is started.
Too bad it was like 5 hours before then.

I minimized the toys and clutter.
I was seriously feeling overwhelmed by all the stuff in our house.

We celebrated my Dad's birthday this weekend.
It was a lot of fun, good food, wonderful company.
Such a nice celebration!

How was your day/weekend?

It's our anniversary *11 years*

11 years ago I married my best friend.
It was freezing, so darn cold I could not believe it.
We had some had-been-scary-turned-funny-moments and truly a beautiful day.

Okay, so, I had been planning on doing a sweet, heartfelt post.
But then, I thought of how our morning went and I thought that I would share a real "us" kind of post.
K and I tend to be goofy people {I know, you're shocked!}
We have little things that we just do, you know, jokes, movie quotes...
Anyways, whenever it is our anniversary we sing a certain song, kind of a silly running joke.
The funny thing, is that I don't even remember listening to this song when I was younger, although K told me this morning that he had the tape.
Yes, I realize how much that sentence dates us.

This morning, to wake him up, I decided to google our anniversary song and surprise him with it, because who doesn't want to wake up to some awesome like this:

In true Kirk fashion, he popped open one eye, looked at me and for the millionth time proclaimed
You're weird.
At least I'm consistent, right?

Happy Anniversary Babe, I love you!

Hey Sunday, what's up?

Ainsley had been battling a cold for about four days and seemed to be on the mend.
Abby on the other hand, had just come down with it and was MISERABLE!
Friday morning, Lee seemed so much better, so I sent her on her merry way to school while the oh-so-sick-one and I stayed home and had a chill morning.
Lee hoped off the bus, had her shoes and coat off, and was on the couch within about 30 seconds of walking in the door.
Not normal.
She then started complaining of her left ear hurting.
I knew what that meant, we were going to the doctor.

For the two hours until her appointment, Lee lay on the couch with a heating pad on low on her ear complaining of an earache.
I woke poor, sick Abby up from her nap early to head to go see Dr. C.

Upper respiratory infections for both and the beginning of an ear infection for Lee.
In one word I can explain how they both felt...miserable.

On Saturday I started feeling sick but not too awful.
Lee  was MUCH better and Abby was still about the same.
Last night after dinner K and I were talking.
There have been a lot of things going on lately and I really feel like a certain someone {Satan} is trying to steal my Christmas joy.
Last year, due to what I now know was depression, Christmas was a bit rough for me.
I enjoyed watching my children enjoy it, but for me it was a rough time.
Due to some meds, I have such a better outlook on this year {Christmas is my FAVORITE holiday} and was so looking forward to this year.
Like I said though, things just keep piling up and are threatening to completely overwhelm me.
I can feel it trying to take over and I am trying to shake it.
I am trying to ground myself in Christ and really give this all to Him because I really want to worship and celebrate this season, Christ's birth.
I ended up going to bed early last night, I just couldn't keep my eyes open, and got a wonderful night's sleep.
Today I am feeling so much better.
I think that devoting some extra time in the Word will help tremendously.
I woke up last night when K came to bed and he has caught what the girls have.

As I have mentioned before, K is a severe asthmatic.
I see breathing treatments and steriods in our future.
Would you please pray for him?
Thanks you guys!

Today, I am thinking about making some homemade pizza and trying to decide what yummy treats we should bake when it gets a bit closer to Christmas.
Decisions decisions.
These though are the fun kinds to make, ha ha!
How has your weekend gone?
What is your favorite kind of cookie?

Our Christmas must have are butter balls, yum-o!

Gobble Gooble and bringin' in the Christmas Fun

Why hello again!
How was your Thanksgiving?
We had. a. blast.
We spent Thanksgiving with K's family and let me tell ya, good times were had by all.

This was my plate post-copious-quantities-of-turkey-consumption.
If I could have bathed in the gravy I would have, delish!
The kids played with their cousins and the adults had fun chatting and watching the children's talent show.
Adison sang a couple of songs and Ainsley, YES Ainsley, got up and danced!

Friday afternoon, K and I headed out on shopping date with a food break at Chick-fil-a.
I LOVE eating there.
This picture of K cracks me up, he's such a ham!

Right after I snapped this picture of K this guy came out.
The first thought that popped into my head is that a huge, dancing Santa cow would flip my kids out!

We got *almost* all of our shopping done and I am beyond thrilled.
We picked up a few games and couldn't wait to take them back to K's parents' house to play them.

Surprisingly {or not} all of our children were freaked out by the game Operation.
Adison said it was too much for her {she's very sound sensitive}, Ainsley cried which then freaked Abby out and lead to her crying.
K eventually went into the other room to play a game with Adison and Abby while I worked on getting Lee over her fear of the buzzing noise with the bright red light from when she would hit the metal on the game.
I think with her it was a bit scary but she is also a bit of a perfectionist and not getting it right away was just too much for her.
Eventually I convinced her that the buzzing sound was kind of like music, which made her happy, and we practiced playing the game.
She was a bit too young for it, but ended up having fun.

Later that night we all got together again.
Pizza and a movie.
The children LOVE seeing each other!
{All 7 cousins}

We decided to head home Saturday, to give us some rest time and get our Christmas decorations up.
The sunset on the way home was gorgeous!
I wish the picture did it justice, but it doesn't.

Hey look, it's me!

The girls were so tired that they could barely keep their eyes open.
Well, Abby couldn't at all, she fell asleep before we were on the highway.
Lee somehow managed to stay awake, I was shocked.
Adison was completely out of it watching a movie.

We all went to bed really early Saturday evening and woke up ready to decorate.

I don't decorate too much for other holidays, but for Christmas we go all out.
I think I have 7 or so tubs of Christmas decorations, I can't help myself.
This year though, I showed some restraint and didn't put everything up, only most of it.
Ha!

Tell me about your weekend, how did it go?

Thanksgiving Eve

It's Thanksgiving Eve, it has me feeling very nostalgic.

I've been thinking of all that I am grateful for.
To have a K, the cupcakes, my parents, my brother, his wife and my niece.
To have K's parents, his sister, her husband and their children.
To have our friends and extended family.
To have a roof over our heads and food in our stomach.
To have God, to have complete faith in Him.
To live in this wonderful country, to have freedom.
To have so very much to be thankful for.

Sometimes, when the day is long and hard, when attitudes are quick or tempers flare, it can be hard to think of these things.
To remember how truly blessed we are to have so much.

I'm grateful to have a place to come, to share and experience life with others.
To have such a loving community of friends.

I'm looking forward to tomorrow.
To hear children's laughter, to converse and express our thanks.
To eat yummy food {woo hoo for mashed potatoes!} and spend the day together.

See you tomorrow my lovelies, xoxo

It's beginning to look a bit like Christmas

We had an A-M-A-Z-I-N-G weekend.
My mom came in town on Saturday to celebrate this sweet girl's birthday.

This picture cracks. me. up.
I asked her to smile and this was the cute face that she made.
On Saturday we got together with my mom, brother, sister-in-law and niece.
It is always so much fun to get all of the kids together and watch them interact.
Abby got A LOT of Elmo stuff, she was over the moon excited.
After lunch K took the littles home to nap while Adison and I headed out with my mom.
I miss my mom so much, it was nice to spend the day with her.

Sunday was the laziest day ever.
K went to the store and picked up 3 bottles of my new favorite coffee creamer flavor, sweetest hubby ever!
We did manage to put up our little Christmas tree.
It's a little 4 ft tree that is just so much fun.
Adison and Ainsley helped decorate it and Abby was THRILLED to see it when she got up from her nap.

This morning Abby had her 2 year check up.
While we were in the waiting room, Lee and Abby were acting like silly little rascals.
Abby was running around then suddenly stopped, looked down and said, "Help Mama!"
Turns out her new pants fell off of her and were down around her knees, ha ha!

Abby is tiny y'all.
Tiny.
She is in the 10th to 25th percentile.
How did my biggest baby end up being my smallest?
Our doctor said that she looks amazing and is on track.
He also checked out Ainsley, who still has her funky cough/throat clearing thing going on and said that she look just fine.
He thinks it might be viral.

How was your weekend?
Did you do any Christmas decorating?

K's 50 questions

I have been asking K FOREVER to write a blog post on this here blog, about anything, ANYTHING!
He told me that he would, but that he didn't know what he would write about.
We tossed ideas around, but nothing really stuck, so I dropped it...for awhile...then asked again...then dropped it.
Today though {clapping hands excitedly!} K decided that he would answer the 50 questions that I answered earlier in the week.

1. Who was the last person you held hands with?
D

2. Are you outgoing or shy?
Depends, do I like you?

3. Who are you looking forward to seeing?
My family, unless the kids are cranky and on it.  Then I look forward to seeing them go to bed ;-)

4. Are you easy to get along with?
Yes, as long as you do it my way

5. Have you ever given up on someone?
Most definitely

6. Do you enjoy school/work?
School was enjoyable, wouldn’t want to go back though.  I enjoy work 95% of the time.

7. What person do you think about most often?
D and also the Smurfs.  There were hundreds of them but you never saw any baby or kid Smurfs.  That’s just weird.

8. What does your most recent text say?
I have an apt to get the severe duty cooling fans in my car’s radiator fixed next week – to D

9. Who did you last speak with for over 30 minutes?
D but I’m not much of a talker

10. Do you believe in good luck?
No, it’s a common saying though, so I am guilty of telling people “good luck”

11. How do you feel in a big crowd of people?
Crowded, if I was a rattle snake my rattle would be going

12. What was the best thing that happened this summer?
Road trips with the family

13. Would you kiss the last person you kissed again?
Yes, it was D this am

14. Do you think there is life on other planets?
Maybe, God can do whatever.  I do enjoy a good alien flick

Elementary school was a looonnnggg time ago, so nope

16. What bad habits do you wish you could break?
I can’t think of any

17. What's the first thing you do when you wake up?
Reach for the covers that D has pulled off of me telling me to get up while tickling my feet

18. Did you dream last night? About what?
Probably, but I never really remember my dreams.  When I do they are so strange Dr. Seuss could have used them for inspiration

19. Who is the most comfortable person to be around
D

20. What made you happy today?
Had Indian for lunch! Num num num , chicken tiki masala and veggie korma.

21. Which celebrity would you want to date and why?
None of them really impress me

Yes, when I have time and if it’s not hot outside

Guys don’t write thank you notes

24. Would you rather live without TV or music?
Either, they are both nice to have but I would just read more

25. Are you currently keeping a secret from someone?
Not really, unless not telling the girls what we are getting them for Christmas counts

26. Do you think age matters?
Yes, canoeing the Amazon when you are 90 or at the old age of 5 would have dire results

27. What was the last store you went into?
Wal-Mart to get washer fluid, coolant and HEAT for my car

28. What is your dream job?
Getting paid to live with the family in a 5 bedroom house on 30 acres and fish in my lake or camp out with the kids

Depends on what screwed up the first chance!  There are some things you just can’t come back from

30. Do you smile at strangers?
No, stranger danger

31. Is your voice quiet or loud?
Depends on the atmosphere

32. Would you rather go to space or to the bottom of the ocean?
Depends on who built the vehicle your sending me out in.  Microsoft, probably not – having to ctl-alt-dlt and reboot in the vacuum of space or at crush depths is not appealing.  Apple, maybe – at least the ship would look good, but third party upgrades would be limited.  US Navy, yep.  NASA, yeah probably.

33. What are you most afraid of?
Losing family members, kid poop and vomit

34. What is the nicest thing someone ever said to you?
Not sure there is one nicest thing.  I like it when people say thank you.

35. Have you done anything you hope no one ever knows about?
Yes, but D already knows about the embarrassing ones.

36. If you could write a book, what would it be about?
“Tales of my youth, some pretty crazy shi..er ah stuff”

37. Do you enjoy bubble baths?
Is there a safe way to answer that question for a guy except to say, ah no!

Fishing, shooting, hiking topped off with some camping.  Ending it around the campfire with some single malt scotch and a nice cigar, telling the kids ghost stories.

39. Would you rather lose your vision or your hearing?
Hearing, not being able to see my kids grow up would be total fail

40. What astrological sign are you?
IDK, Capricorn I think.

“of the church”

42. Do you prefer indoors or outdoors?

Yes, mi esposa

45. Where would you travel if you could go anywhere?
Ireland, Scotland and Fiji

46. What do you do during an awkward silence?

Yo- title by Kirk

I couldn't decide what to title today's post.
So I asked K, he told me "Yo" so "Yo" it is.

This weekend has been pretty laid back.
Yesterday morning we went to the Farmer's Market.
We snagged all sorts of yumminess that was chomped on all afternoon.
In the evening we had church.
A nice, laid-back, easy Saturday.

Oh, and I got a nap in.
All around a success.

This morning all three girls cuddled on the recliner together and watched some cartoons.
I couldn't resist snapping a picture of the cuteness.

We finally decided to head out to Target.
It was there we discovered the Halloween costumes.

I personally think I make a lovely hot dog and K makes a darling banana.
The kids thought it was hysterical {and were probably wondering if we had lost our minds}.
{P.S. Target has Pumpkin Spice coffee creamer}

After that we stopped by to see my brother and sister-in-law for a bit.
Adison then asked if we could go for a hike.
It was a gorgeous afternoon so why not.

Abby was so into K.
She wanted him to hold his hand most of the time.
On the rare occasion that I got to hold her hand she would suddenly change her mind and call for her Daddy.

Hey look, it's me!

This nice couple was walking the trail as well.
They offered to snap a picture of the five of us before we got into the woods.
As you can tell the walk was impromptu as seen by Ainsley and I wearing flip flops.

The big girls had so much fun running through the woods.
Poor Abby tried to keep up but her little legs got tired easily and she would want to be carried for a bit.
K and I were more than happy to.
At this point in the walk Adison and Ainsley decided to collect rocks.
Ainsley said it was to
scare off animals or dinosaurs

All three girls.
K and I got to hold hands for a bit and watch our three girls enjoy nature.
It was such a nice moment.

I just had to include this picture.
Abby is such a silly little cutie pie.

How has your weekend been?

All I needed was a slice of apple pie

Yesterday afternoon we took the girls to a new park.
It was about 20 minutes away from our fair city.

All we knew was that the park was in a certain town, we didn't know anything more.

K packed up a picnic lunch while I got the kids ready to go.

Past corn fields and grain elevators.

As we pull into the town we were wondering where the park could be.

We passed high school boys standing outside the fire station waving American flags.

We passed a baseball diamond and there, behind the diamond we saw it..

The park.
Oh if you could of heard the whoops and hollers of our three children.

We pull into the parking lot and immediately noticed all the cars.
Two families were having some get togethers.

We pulled into our space, got the kids out of the car and let them go to the playground.

They were ready and all but sprinted to discover the new fun things that awaited their exploration.

The bigger girls quickly found other children to play with while Abby was more than happy to explore by herself.

K and I watched the excitement while unpacking our lunches and getting things ready.

Kids, time to eat!

Do I have to eat now?

No, you can eat when you are ready for a break.

K and I talked and ate and watched the kids while they played.
Laughing and commenting on how they each found the thing that they like to do.

Adison- the swings
Ainsley- the slides
Abby- the bouncy bridge

The girls would come and go, eating and then running off to play.

At one time, Abby finished eating, looked back at Ainsley and said:
Come on, sister

After a bit the girls all called for Daddy to come play with them.
They are used to me playing, Daddy being at the park was a treat.

I sat there, finishing up my lunch and taking it all in.

The sound of my children laughing with my husband.
The corn fields just beyond the playground.
The baseball diamond off to the left.

It was a snapshot of America.
Such a blessed way to spend an anniversary of such horrific trauma.

This was America.
Families.
Children laughing.
Being together.

Then, to make the afternoon even more wonderful a trio of older adults came with their musical instruments.
One man played the guitar and sang, another man played the fiddle and the woman also played her fiddle.

In between songs, the trio would talk and laugh a bit.

Then I could hear the music again and occasionally the sound of the man singing.

The children would come and go, needing drinks or a snack.
I played and rode with Ainsley on the swing for a bit, went down the slides with Abby and explored the playground with Adison.
Ainsley wanted to swing so high that we could touch the trees.

Eventually K and I made our way back to the table.
I then told him that all we needed was a piece of apple pie because it doesn't get any more American then that moment.

Yesterday afternoon was a treat.
A moment when the world felt right again.
When all was as it should be.

We labored then we played

Yesterday was Labor Day.
And labor I did.
Not in the childbirth sense instead in working sense.
Ugh, yes, childbirth is work...you understand what I am trying to say, right?

Some cooler weather has graced these parts.
The high yesterday was only in the upper 70s the same was true today as well!

When I saw how cool it was yesterday morning I just knew that I needed to seize the opportunity and get some outdoor work done.

K and I have been working on painting our front porch.
Lately we have been scraping paint and priming.
Yesterday was no different.

I scraped and painted, painted and scraped until my shoulder cried out no more.
I looked around the yard and decided to mow as well.
The grass wasn't long, but needed a good trim.

Since it was so glorious outside K and I decided to take the kids to the park.

They were not even remotely excited, ha!

We played and ran and counted the tree rings on a stump from a recently cut down tree.

After playing for a good amount of time K and I decided to take the kids to get a cupcake.

Goodness gracious, cupcakes are sooooooo good.

At the cupcake place they have a large magnet board.
The girls love to play at them.
Yesterday Adison spelled all of their names.

This morning was rough

There's just no way around it.
This morning stunk.
Both literally and figuratively.
Stunk.
It all started when my insomnia that had been on leave decided to try a sneak appearance.
Which really, totally isn't nice.
At all.
{But, K is back home, he got home around midnight last night, woo hoo!}
Anyways.
I had just dragged my weary self out of bed when I hear Ainsley yelling for me.
MOOOOMMMMYYY!
MOMMYYYYYYYYYYYYY!
Then a garbled sentence.
Mommmyyyy!

I finished getting every one's breakfast stuff ready then went to get/wake up children for the morning mad dash to get ready for school.
It never ceases to amaze me that no matter how early I get up, how much planning I do, the morning routine is chaotic.
Seriously chaotic.

After speaking with Ainsley I discover the reason behind her morning wake up call.
{She does this pretty much every morning, this morning there was an actual purpose behind it.}

According to Lee Abby had pooped all over her crib.

Sigh.

Poop, bleh.

I packed up the necessities to deal with this type of situation.
For once I actually remembered to bring the all important diaper wipes with me.
Usually I am trying to carry a messy child down the stairs with whatever else got messy.
This morning though, ha ha, I thought ahead.

Turns out not to be that big of a deal.
There was still poop on the crib sheet, but totally doable.

Then Adison was doing her now typical possum routine.
She likes to pretend to be asleep and then try to scare whomever is around.
Fun.

Okay...
Finally I get everyone downstairs, they have their respective morning stuff.
Milk.
Juice.
The beginnings of breakfast.

I sit down to tackle the atrocity on/in/outside of Abby's diaper.
It was bad.
Adison even commented on how it must be poisonous.

Then Lee starts in with her 3,000 questions in two minutes routine.
Then the whining starts in.
Then more questions.
Then whining, then not listening.
Wow, three almost four year olds are tough.

All while I am attempting to not gag/throw up/get the atrocity on me.

Finally.
Finally I got everything cleaned up, answered all 4,293,648 questions that an almost 4 year old can have in the time frame of approximately 10 minutes and then took Abby in to see her exhausted, sleeping Daddy.

She was thrilled to see him, he was thrilled to see her.
Then Lee came in and the excitement started all over again.
Then Adison and it was just a room filled with excitement and shared stories.

So, I guess that even though the morning was rough and I haven't had my coffee yet {gasp}, the girls got to see their dad for the first time in a couple of days and Adison got to school on time.

I am calling that a success for today.

I am praying that today ends up much more smoothly.
If not though, I will try to find the happiness of it...you know if the coffee can eventually get consumed.
