The Father's Day that wasn't

Poor K, today was not the Father's Day that I had envisioned for him.
Not that I am sure how *exactly* I had hoped the day would go.
I assumed {that was my first mistake} that he would get to sleep in this morning.
My hubs really likes to sleep in.

Then we would have a calm, peaceful {ha ha!} day doing whatever he wanted.
Whether that be him sitting on the couch doing nothing, him taking a nap or basically whatever he had hoped to do.

What I had hoped for and what actually happened could not have been more different.
Sigh.

I will start at the the beginning for you.

I was awakened this morning to the sounds of crying.
Ugh, not a great way to start the day but not abnormal either.
I hopped out of bed and got the morning necessities {aka milk and juice} when I hear Adison say:

Mommy, Ainsley took Abby's clothes off and Abby took her diaper off.
I'm thinking: Ugh, seriously.
Me: Ainsley, why did you take Abby's clothes off?
Ainsley: Mama, can I have some juice?
*Abby crying*
Me: Hold on Abby, Mama's coming.
Me: Yes, Lee, your juice is on the table.

I go to get Abby and bring her milk with me as I am expecting to have to take her sheets off of her bed and that would delay her milk consumption.
Abby is much happier after her milk, kind of like her mama and her coffee.
You pretty much always need to have her milk ready ASAP.

I quickly realized that the situation was MUCH worse than anticipated.

Abby has her clothes and diaper off but that's not all.
SHE HAD POOPED!
There was poop EVERYWHERE!
Her blanket, the crib sheet, the mattress pad and her Abby Ka Dabby doll.
Oh and IT'S ALL OVER HER!

Mental picture time:
I'm trying to carry a naked, poopy baby toddler down the stairs while carrying nasty sheets, all the while I am trying to NOT get poop all over me.
Abby is holding/drinking her milk when she either throws {which she LOVES to do} or drops her entire sippy cup of milk on the floor.
It doesn't just fall, IT EXPLODES.
Yep, an entire sippy cup of milk all over the floor and a poop covered child.
So much fun, NOT.

I called for back up, my hubby that was supposed to be sleeping in for Father's Day.
So not how I had envisioned things.

Oh yeah, did I mention that he hadn't been able to sleep last night so only managed about 40 minutes of sleep.
I was not thrilled, but mama needed a back up.

K got the milk cleaned up and got Abby a refill while I cleaned up and bathed the babe.

After all that I mention to K that maybe that means that the day will be wonderfully smooth and relaxing for Father's Day.
K is more of a pessimistt realist, his response:
No, this probably sets the standard for the rest of the day.

Yes, unfortunately, he was right.

While he did manage to get a few more hours of sleep in and we were able to go out to lunch to celebrate my hubby and the wonderful father that he is.

The afternoon though, while he slept a bit more, was AWFUL!
I am not kidding you, one of the worst.

We made it through it though and actually managed to finish on a very positive note.

K was a trooper though, no complaining about it being Father's Day and that it wasn't going quite like he had hoped.

We decided to end the evening having an at home date night.
Have I mentioned what a catch he is?

Next year, yes, next year will be a better one...hopefully...I make no promises though.

An ode to my hubby on Father's Day

This guy

is my beloved

He is father to this girl

and this girl

and this girl

He likes to make funny faces in pictures and make us laugh

He likes to cook these on this

and buy me these because they make me happy

He reads books

and he records funny noises for the kids to listen to and laugh at

But most importantly, he loves God and his family

He makes sacrifices and always does his best for us.

Happy Father's Day honey.
You are such an amazing father and husband.
I love you!

Crafty Saturday

First of all, I am so excited to say that my eldest cupcake is HOME!
She had a blast with her grandparents, aunt & uncle as well as her cousins.
She had so much fun at VBS too.
I am happy to though  to have her home.
She seems so much bigger and mature, how is it that she seems to have changed so much in only 6 days!?!

On Wednesday, after our outing with my dad and niece the girls and I stopped by Michael's to check out their felt.
I ended up buying a few sheets of it to try my hand at making the flowers.
I already had the rest of the supplies at home.
I FINALLY got around to making them last night.

 This one is Ainsley's favorite.
She requests this one the most.

I have been seeing a lot of felt flowers lately and have been itching to try some.
I just think they are precious!
Yay for having a house full of cupcakes that can wear fun things like these.

Today after picking Adison up went out for donuts and then went to Hobby Lobby.
I had my mind set on making the girls some flowers for the 4th of July.
I made these three while Abby was taking a nap this afternoon.

Adison's is the one on the far right with all three colors swirled together.
Ainsley's is the one on the bottom with the same sized flowers.
Abigail's is the one on the top right with the three different sized flowers.

I had so much fun making these!

I will see you guys tomorrow.
I will be doing a Father's Day post.
I hope that everyone is having a wonderful Saturday!

Friday ramblings

~This morning the kids were wild, WILD I tell you.
So I did what any other stay at home mama does when her sanity is at stake:
I told the kids we were going on an outing.
I had no idea where I wanted to take them as it rained all day yesterday and last night.
All of a sudden I decided that the zoo was the place to go.

The girls and I thought this little turtle was just precious.
We stood their for a good several minutes just watching it chomp on some lettuce.

Abby was especially interested in watching it.
She kept waving at it and saying "Hi!"
Yes, she did suddenly become a toddler although I CANNOT really admit it to myself, it would just break my heart.
Instead I choose to still call her my baby.

The zoo had so many things for the kids to climb.
Abby was really into crawling on everything.
I was thrilled that she sat still long enough for me to snap some pics.

~I am seriously considering cutting my hair.
Cutting it short.
I feel like it has been long for such a long time that a change would be nice.

~I am seriously missing Adison.
Like a lot.
She has been gone since Sunday.
Sigh.
We pick her up tomorrow though, so that is wonderful!
I think it has been even worse as she does NOT like talking on the phone.

~I am loving blogging again.
I feel like writer's block or whatever was keeping me from really writing has been lifted.
Yippee!
Maybe it was my sinus infection/ear infection that was blocking my thoughts from coming through...

~I am currently craving a cupcake.
Like madly craving it.
I would also really like a frou frou, fancy coffee to go with it.
While I'm at it, how about dinner just showing up too.
I mean, why not go for it, right?

~My brother's wedding is a little more than 3 weeks away!
We are having a lot of family come in town, I can't wait.

~My house is a disaster.
Plain and simple disaster.
I have been trying to keep up with it, but Abby and Ainsley seem to have some tag-team Tasmanian Devil thing going on because it feels impossible.
Oh well, no biggie.

~I just finished reading The Hunger Games trilogy.
It was really good.
K read all the books too.
I love when he and I read the same books, it is so fun discussing them.

~I think that's it...I'm off to "try" to clean my mess of a house.
I just can't handle the mess.
I'm thinking it may be time to purge toys.

Have a great weekend everyone!
What are your plans?

InstaFriday

life rearranged
It's Friday, it's Friday!
That means that it is time to share all those fun cell phone pics!
Head on over to Life Rearrange and join in the Friday fun!

Breakfast one morning.
Watermelon = summer
Yum! I love watermelon.
I like to put a little bit of salt on it, oh my goodness, delish!

This was the temp one morning before 10:00 a.m.
It was a HOT day.
Welcome to summer in the Midwest.

On the previously mentioned hot day it was too warm to spend much time outside.
The girls had some cabin fever so I decided to break out the butterfly garden tent.
It made them happy which made mama happy!

This girl LOVES building with blocks.
I have NEVER seen a child love building this much.
She giggles while stacking them up so high and then belly laughs as she knocks them down.
Pure delight.

Wednesday was REALLY nice out.
Adison is still visiting her grandparent's hence no Adison pics this week.
The littles and I headed out that morning to play at the park.
They were still having a blast so I decided not to head home just yet.
We ended up at the discovery center where my Dad and niece joined us for some playtime.
It was such a nice day.f

Having an ice cream party.
Yum yum!

Have a great weekend!

Five Question Friday!

How in the world is it Friday already?
Seriously, this has been one of those weird weeks where it can't possibly be Friday yet I woke up this morning thinking it was Saturday.
Yeah, it doesn't make an sense to me either.
Anyways...Five Question Friday.

1. What is your favorite summer time activity?

2. Do you have one laundry soap you stick to, or do you buy whatever's on sale?

3. What is your favorite dinner to make in the summer?

4. Do you have any talents?

5. If you could instantly be an expert in something, what would it be? Why?

1. My favorite summer time activity...can I say say sleeping in? Seriously, I love that we don't have a schedule during the summer. If not sleeping then, waking up and heading straight to the park or having picnics.

2. I usually just buy whatever is on sale and smells good.

3. I love it when hubby grills. Then we have grilled zucchini, a salad and maybe some grilled asparagus. Yum, now I am hungry.

4. Not that I can really think of. Um, reading. I am a really fast reader and LOVE reading. Is there such a thing as a reading talent? We can just pretend, okay? Thanks!

5. I would love to learn how to sew and actually be able to make things. I think that would be a pretty awesome skill to be an expert in...or maybe cooking...or gardening...really the list is endless.

The time I lost it at Silver Dollar City

I am one of those women who love being pregnant.
Not that I have that glow, but I love the feeling of a little life growing inside of me.
Branson 2002, me with my niece

What I didn't love about being pregnant was my relationship with food.
If I was hungry and you stand in the way of my food WATCH OUT!
I was around 20 weeks pregnant with my first child {Adison} and we were on a family vacation to Branson with K's family.
It was so much fun!
This trip we decided to go to Silver Dollar City.
I had gone there as a child and remembered loving it.

So we are there, walking around, having fun when I start to get hungry.
I saw a little restaurant that had some food that looked really good.

I mentioned to K something along the lines of:
I'm getting hungry, the food their looks really good. I think we should go eat.

His response was something like:
Okay, let's go on a few more rides since the show is going to start soon and then we can get some food.

I must of agreed to this, although 8 years later I cannot possibly imagine why.
In hindsight, since I couldn't ride on anything *I* should have gone to eat and everyone else should have gone on the rides.
Dear younger pregnant self, EAT WHEN YOU ARE HUNGRY!

Everyone else goes on the rides, I sit there, hot, miserable, hungry, pregnant and becoming more bitter by the second.
My thoughts at the time surrounded by pictures of food.

A few more rides seemed to turn into EVERY RIDE ALONG THE WAY.
We were almost at something I like to call seeing red angry.
It was quickly becoming a BAD situation.

I kept mentioning my state of hunger and how much I NEEDED to eat.
But there was just ONE MORE RIDE to go one.

Needless to say, by the time that the rides were done the RESTAURANT was CLOSED.
Yes closed.
As was EVERY SINGLE OTHER ONE.
I was livid and so hungry that it was bordering hysteria.

To make matters worse, we were seeing a show at Silver Dollar City so we couldn't just leave to go get my precious food.

Then, THEN K found this kiosk that was open.
Great food I thought, only NOT GREAT.
They had Renaissance type food.
You know the kind, where you can get a huge roasted turkey leg and a little cardboard box of corn on the cob and other such items.
Did my nearly hysterical, half starved, hormonally pregnant self want THAT?

No I tell you, I WANTED the food at the other restaurant.
Not this food.
No!

So I did what any other rational, pregnant woman {ha ha} does.
I LOST IT.
I FLIPPED OUT!
I CRIED.
I basically threw a temper tantrum.

I don't want that food.
I wanted to food from earlier.
I want the food that I said that I want back when I said that I wanted it.
We should have eaten earlier, you know BACK WHEN I MENTIONED THAT I WAS HUNGRY THE FIRST 100 TIMES.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that I did all of this IN FRONT OF K's FAMILY!

Then, K's mom {who is the sweetest woman ever} said,
They will have cotton candy at the show, we can get you some there.

Normally I am a huge fan of cotton candy, love it, that moment though, I didn't.

I seem to recall more ranting and raving occurring, but must have blocked it out due to extreme embarrassment.

I was borderline vomitting from the need for food and that sugary stuff sounded about as appealing as the Renaissance food.
I don't remember if I ended up eating anything there.
More likely than not I didn't, I was probably past the hungry point.
You know, where you really can't eat because you are so sick to your stomach.

Yep, not my proudest moment.
I can't really claim any blame though, can I?
I can blame the raging horomones.

Looking back at this moment cracks me up.
I cannot believe that I lost it that way, especially in front of his family.
Ha ha ha, oh the memory making times.

I read this prompt at Mama Kat's writer's workshop and knew that I had to share.
Head on over, pick a prompt and join!
